William Mathieu Thomson came 1841 on the India which burned at Sea and then on the Grindlay. William Mathieu Thomson was the son of a Scottish soldier and a French nurse, and wed Janet McDonald in Edinburgh in July 1840. By the time they arrived in Australia after their eventful voyage, Janet was pregnant with their first of 10 children, who was christened four months later.
