See Biography by Vivian Hill, he was born 28 August 1816, and wed 1840 to Harriet Amelia Orton, dau of a shipwright William H Orton of Stockton-on-Tees near Durham, and had no children. An Australian colonial politician, he was the 6th Premier of Victoria, He died 22 Feb 1884 aged 68 and Harriet died in 1887.
