Thomas Reid, wed Elizabeth Boyle 1842 #608 Presbyterian Melbourne & Geelong
Thomas Reid and Elizabeth Boyle christened Elizabeth 1843, and registered birth Maria Francis Read 1854 #4797 at Muddywarre

From on Sunday, 18 August 2013
Hello Elizabeth, I write regarding several entries at the “Reocities” - “Victoria before 1848” website to enquire about the source of some of the material regarding my G. G. Grandparents, “Thomas Read” & “Elizabeth Boyle,” listed at the website as follows;
“Thomas Read and Elizabeth christened Robert 1847, Thomas 1847
Thomas Reid, wed Elizabeth Boyle 1842 #608 Presbyterian Melbourne & Geelong
Thomas Reid and Elizabeth Boyle christened Elizabeth 1843, Thomas 1843, Ann 1843, David Stuart 1845, Hannah Mari 1847.”

The couple had children between 1842 and 1859. Research to date, however, has not revealed the christenings attributed (above) of “Ann 1843, David Stuart 1845, Hannah Mari 1847.” I (and other “Read” family researchers known to me) have confirmed births to the couple in 1842, 1844, 1848 and to 1859, but not yet to the dates assigned to these three children. Given the “gaps” between previously identified (surviving) children, it seems quite possible/probable that “Ann 1843, David Stuart 1845, Hannah Mari 1847” may have indeed been born & christened (but not survived).
I am keen to determine further information about the above individuals,
The “Birth Place: MUDD” for “Maria Frances” actually refers to “Muddy Warre” which is now called “Modewarre,” a rural hamlet just west of Geelong in Victoria. Co-incidentally, the family did subsequently relocate further west, to Allansford (in the Hopkins River catchment). Although the civil records carry several pre-civil registration and most post-civil registration records of children to the couple the 1843, 1845 and 1847 births still elude us, no doubt they all would have occurred in places between Geelong and Warrnambool. It would seem that these 3 did not survive early childhood, at least did not make it to the birth civil register, as their siblings did. None the less, they still prompt some interest.
Thankyou for your letter
I have spent more time trying to sort out what details the Index offers.
I appreciate your help in straightening out the records for your family.
