At Wigtown, Scotland, on the 31st December, by the Rev. R. C. Black, vicar of St. Mary's Huntingdon, William James McHaffie, Esquire, of Phillip Island, Western Port, eldest son of Colonel McHaffie of Torhousemuir, to Isabella, eldest daughter of John Black, Esquire, banker, Wigtown.

Little James appears to have been a honeymoon baby :-) Diana recently posted his parents' marriage announcement from the 9 Jan 1851 Wigtown Free Press: "At Wigtown, on the 31st December, by the Rev. R.C. Black, vicar of St. Mary's, Huntingdon, William James M'Haffie, Esquire, eldest son of Colonel M'Haffie of Torhousemuir, to Isabella, eldest daughter of John Black, Esquire, banker, Wigtown."
At the residence of Mrs Wilkie, at Portobello, near Edinburgh, on the 2nd January last, James Malcolm, Esq., of Olrig, Port Phillip, to Caroline Nesbit Wilkie, daughter of the late Rev. Daniel Wilkie, Minister of the New Greyfriar's Church, Edinburgh.

Sarah McHaig was lost near Currency Creek and her remains were reported found in The Port Phillip Herald, Tue 26 Sep 1843, after she had been missing over 2 years. She left a message for her sister Elizabeth, in a book found beside her bones.
The girls and their parents came from Clendrie, parish of Inch, Wigtownshire in Scotland about 4 years ago.

Daniel McIntosh took over the license of the British Hotel from George Aitcheson in early March 1853. He was still described as a Victualler at his death in May 1856 although it appears the license was transferred to his brother-in-law James Woodside in April 1855. Daniel McIntosh's widow Martha Love Woodside married John Lord of the Young Queen Inn (or Hotel), Sydney Road, "Spring Vale, Dry Creek".
