Andrew Moynahan wed Elizabeth Crowe in 1844 at Roman Catholic St Francis Melbourne

From on Saturday, 5 February, 2011

Hello Elizabeth,
I am a great grand daughter of Andrew Moynihan, who married Elizabeth Crowe etc, but the family always thought him to be Irish!!!!. He bought property at Mt. Moriac, Vic, and became a prosperous grazier. But he changed his name to Monahan, we have never ever quite known why. Is there any way we can find more about the Scottish ancestry please.
Congratulations on your web site, Regards, M. Colbourne

Each child is listed with father Andrew and mother Eliza Crowe, but surname wobbles.

From the FirstFamilies2001 entry, "In 1844 James Bickford Moysey and his cousin Nicholas Bickford, took a lease on 5 square miles (3,200 acres) of bush on Port Phillip Bay and called it Beaumaris Run, which they farmed. This area is still called Beaumaris today. In 1849 Nicholas moved on and the lease was reduced to 640 acres (1 sq. mile). In 1852 James purchased the freehold on 80 acres of this land to raise his family of 9 children for 1 pound 1 shilling per acre. In 1881 the family sold up and moved to Narre Warren. James and Susannah are buried at the Old Cheltenham Cemetery, which is on the original Beaumaris Run."

Hello Elizabeth,
I did see the Ann Mulgrew... on same ship/arrival date. That's who you mean, right? I don't know who she is... if she came with him, sister maybe????
James did marry Catherine McDonald about 1854. They had a daughter in 1857 at Nunawading, Mary Teresa Mulgrew, who married (I believe) William Dwyer at same place, 1878. Mary (Mulgrew) Dwyer d. Korweinguboora, Victoria, 1894.
I don't know of any other children. How do you have Ann as their daughter?
As the P.L. said, James came from Co. Tyrone... actually Errigle Keerogue parish (aka Ballygawley.) There is a great extended family of Mulgrews in the area. His parents were Bernard Mulgrew and Sarah Kelly. He had a brother, Bernard, also immigrated to Victoria, m Louisa Oates; and a cousin, Francis Mulgrew m. Mary Ann Jeffrey (my relative.)
Several of Francis' siblings immigrated to USA (Rhode Island.)
Loree
