Hi Elisabeth Thank you for your prompt reply. I do know quite a lot about my ancestors and when they came to Melbourne i.e. the year from Hobart. They had been on the first set of free immigrants to Tas in 1837 aboard the Bussorah Merchant. I have documentation showing this.
Their story is so well known as the house they later built has stayed in the family till the present time so there is a rich oral history and quite a bit of documentation to show this. Now it is possible to extend and verify this knowledge. The family was James Mahoney, his wife Ellen and at least 2 children, Cornelius and James.
Thank you for your reflection, and advice. Regards, Katrina

Mr J Mahony with wife and 2 chn Departed from Hobart on 14 July 1839 for Port Phillip, and sailed on 17 July on the Shamrock

Subject: Hegarty--Mahony families aboard The Shamrock 1839. Hi Elizabeth, My name is Steve Green and I have been researching the Hegerty and Mahony families that I found on your site, (Came to Port Phillip by 1849). I discovered some time ago you had that they came on the Shamrock in July 1839. Today when I looked for the entry that said "Mr J Mahony with wife and 2 children departed from Hobart on 14 July 1849 for 39 for Port Phillip, and sailed on 17 July on The Shamrock", I found that line was missing. I was wondering if it has been removed for some reason. Travelling with them was Hannah Hegarty, (who I believed was Marys sister as her husband's name was John Mahony and she was Mary Hegarty, and a Mary Mahony was sponser for Hannah's child, John in 1842. As the entry is not on the list now I am concerned as to whether this is the case. I was wondering if you could give me any information at all. Many thanks.. and all the best.....From Steve Green.
