James Hogg had an unfortunate adventure - reported in Geelong Advertiser for Feb 14, 1842. He was in Geelong and in Jan was taken to Melb as the accused, but when the case came before the Crown, he did not match the description of the person he was believed to be. On his return to Geelong he decided to see compensation from the policeman who first arrested him - only to have an old Warrant for absconding turn up, he was again forwarded to Melbourne, to face his former master, Mr Smith of Yarra River who 'we have heard has since forgiven him'. |
