In Surrey in November 1818 Hoddle married Mary Staton, by whom he had one daughter. After Mary's death in 1862 he married, in July 1863, Fanny Agnes, the 18-year-old daughter of Captain Benjamin Baxter; they had three daughters and one son. After Hoddle's death on 24 October 1881, his widow married Richard Buckhurst Buxton. Robert Hoddle, subscribed 5/5/- to the Testomonial to be presented to Captain Lonsdale, raising a total of 325 pounds 17s from 76 men. His voyage aboard the ship the ‘ROYAL CONSORT’, a barque of 527 tonnes, departed from Cork in Ireland on the 9th November 1843 arriving in Port Phillip Victoria on the 18th July 1844 after a voyage of 97 days. He was listed on the Royal Consort’s shipping records as being unmarried, aged 26 years, occupation labourer, religion Protestant. He left the ship of his own account, and the cost of his bounty passage paid for him was £18/14/- Also aboard the ship was an Abraham Hodgkinson who was third mate officer and could have been a relative of James?
