From the web site Their infant daughter, Mary Jane, died a few weeks after their arrival and an economic depression blunted their hopes of a better life than they had back in County Armagh. Joseph worked at pit-sawing timber in the bush at Dandenong for those first few years before they left for Belfast (Port Fairy) and a more prosperous future.
