Hello Elizabeth,
Thank you so much for your amazing internet site .. it has helped me immensely in the search for some of my missing ancestors.
I have tracked down the Crowe family who came out on the "Forth" in 1841. They ended up in the Bacchus Marsh area, then the Geelong area. One of the Crowe boys (John) married Margaret Hogan a few years after arrival and they had a large family. One of their children, Mary Ann, married John Donovan in 1873 at St Francis Church in Melbourne.
Through my research, I have uncovered lots of "Forth" connections, with other passengers being witnesses at various marriages of Crowe family members. I believe that many of them came from the same area in Ireland and perhaps made the decision to emigrate together.
I have never been able to find the parents of my ancestor John Donovan. His marriage certificate of 1873 says that his parents were Mary Corbett and John Donovan and that he was born in Victoria approx 1844.
But I notice that on the "Forth" ships list there is a John and a Mary Donovan. I am trying to discover whether these Donovan's were "mine" but I am unsure how to find out any further information on these people. If you could help with suggestions for continuing my search it would be most appreciated.
Kind regards, Anna Usher.
