Feb 6 cleared for Sydney and arrival 19 Feb. Passengers Mr and Mrs Hill, Messrs Cavenagh, Southy, Pickering, Ebden, Thatcher, Connell, Cropp/Cross, and James and 20 in the steerage, with part of her original cargo

Reported in Sydney free press for 3 Aug 1841,

the Fergusson was Shipwrecked

on Tuesday 27 April 1841 upon the Great Barrier near Torres Straits, in latitude 12'18" S, longitude 143'54" E. Of the many persons on board, we are happy to record the loss of only one life. Every exertion was made to get the ship off but without effect. The captain put a blue light to warn other vessels who were involved saving a considerable quantity of provisions, and they anchored inside the reef in safety.
Reported in Geelong Advertiser, 24 July 1841, crew and passengers including troops of the 51st Regiment, were saved by the Orient and the Marquis of Hastings, and gives date of disaster as 17 April.
